Back To School

We never forget to supply our children with pencils, erasers, and notebooks when it’s back to school time. However, it is just as important to supply the proper nutrition they need to be at their best for the school days ahead. A well balanced diet may result in better attention, memory, confidence and in the long term, less stress for the parents.

Balance Blood Sugar to Balance Behavior

The most important step is to balance the blood sugar levels. Insulin pikes and drops can lead to hyperactivity, aggressiveness and learning problems.

Wild Oily Fish, Brain Food

When we make a new memory these dendrites detach and make new connections with other neurons. Essential fats are needed for their fluidity and fast response. The richest source of Omega 3 is wild oily fish, such as salmon, trout, tuna and sardines. If the child is reluctant to eat fish, great tasting emulsified fish oil supplements are available from better health food stores.

Best From Natural Sources

However, a supplement is not equal to the natural source containing many other components that assist the function of the nutrient in our body. Try to disguise fish in tasty fish cakes and pasta dishes. Steamed fresh fish has no strong odor or taste. It is also important to include other foods rich in essential fatty acids in their diet, such as avocado, nuts, seeds and their butters, olive oil for cooking and other cold pressed oils used unheated.
