You could also prop your system with other immune boosting foods, such as red onions, garlic, ginger, shiitake mushrooms, pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts, Pecans and anti-oxidant rich fresh and frozen dark berries, Goji berries, fresh herbs and vegetables.

Eat an Internal Sunscreen

One family of anti-oxidants is especially important for skin protection on sun holidays, namely the carotenoids. They are effective at preventing UV-light photo-oxidation of the lipids in your skin. UV radiation from sunlight is the most potent risk factor in skin cancer pathogenesis. So the carotenoids work as “internal sunscreen”, protecting your skin whilst not interfering with Vitamin D production as the SPF creams do.

A bowl full of sunscreen!? Cherries are high in beta-carotene.

Carotenoids + Beta carotene

Always take carotenoids in combination instead of just the single Beta carotene supplements, as they work in synergy and re-cycle each-other when used up in a battle with free radicals. In nature you always find them grouped up in foods, such as the bright orange deep red and green coloured fruits and vegetables: apricots, carrots, sweet potatoes, cherries, peppers, cabbage, spinach, and fresh herbs, etc.

Try Nettle Tea

In general and to avoid prickly heat rash, try to stay out of the sun midday. However, if you are prone to skin rashes, nettles are wonderful to rid the body of histamine and calm the skin. Make a lovely cold lemonade out of a four nettle tea bag, a litre of hot water and the juice of ½ a lemon, enjoy it cool all through the day.

Avoid using chemicals and perfume on your skin as these can aggravate the condition.

Vitamin B1 Nature Mosquito Repelant

If mosquitoes love you try taking Thiamine (B1 vitamin) at least two weeks prior and during your holiday. This vitamin makes you smell (for the mosquitoes only) like a vegetable instead of mammal.

Eat Smart

To avoid piling up the pounds, don’t forget to fill your plate with blood sugar balancing protein (fish, lean meat, eggs, beans, tofu, etc.) and vegetables of all colours. These will keep you satisfied for a long time without the massive calories and keep you from the sweet seductions.

Keep the alcohol to the minimum and support your liver with Milk Thistle tablets (unless you are on ANY medication!). Get as much rest during your holidays as possible, so you won’t feel like you need another holiday to rest up after your holiday.
